Judge Larson is the only candidate in this race who has actually served as a judge – he has served over 16 years on the bench, where he has earned a strong reputation as a smart, fair, and accomplished judge.
Before that, he served as a civil trial lawyer for 23 years, earning a “preeminent” peer rating from lawyers and judges who witnessed his work. He tried cases in both state and federal court and managed civil litigation across the entire nation.
Judge Larson has been the presiding judge responsible for managing the Federal Way Municipal Court for the past 14 years and has been rated as an “Exceptionally Well Qualified” trial judge,
He is also a statewide and national leader in addressing the many issues associated with crime, addiction, and untreated mental illness, all of which are some of the most prevalent problems facing our communities today. Judge Larson’s actual tangible solutions for the crime we are experiencing across this state are unmatched and inspiring.
Decisions made by our Supreme Court, including their own inaction, has been part of the problem, and adding Judge Larson to the Supreme Court is the solution.
The Supreme Court remains silent as people and communities suffer. In some ways, the Supreme Court has made matters worse. The best example is the Court’s Blake decision in 2021, which essentially legalized drugs in Washington. Our state is still trying to recover from that decision. Judge Larson has been involved with the legislature in fixing Blake, as well as other past erroneous decisions of the Supreme Court that affected public health and safety.
Judge Larson has long devoted himself to the improvement of the justice system and judicial independence, earning him the President’s Award from the District and Municipal Court Judges Association in 2018. His work inspired the formation of the Council on Independent Courts, a body that is dedicated to making the judiciary the best it can be. He is also the recipient of several other awards, which recognize his unmatched long-term commitment to service.
Judge Larson has also worked closely with legislators and others across the state and nation to coordinate and develop real strategies for not only our state’s criminal justice system, but for the communities they serve. He intends to bring that desperately needed leadership to our state’s highest court so that they can work together with other branches of state and local government to tackle the troublesome issues facing not only our communities, but our state as a whole.
